The day before the Almería City Half Marathon transformed into a family celebration with the children's races. Over 500 young athletes, some accompanied by their parents in the younger age categories, joined this initiative aimed at fostering running from an early age.
The event, which took place on Saturday afternoon, offered a vibrant scene in front of the Palacio de los Juegos Mediterráneos, where the Runner's Fair was also located. The short-distance races for children served as a lively prelude to the main marathon, held on Sunday.
“"It is a joy to see so many boys and girls practicing sports. The Half Marathon will boost Almería's brand as a sports destination. I encourage Almerians to accompany the 4,500 runners of the Half and the 10-kilometer healthy race throughout the route."
The Councillor for Active City, Antonio Casimiro, was responsible for starting some of the races, highlighting the importance of these initiatives for promoting Almería as a sports reference. The main Half Marathon and the 10-kilometer healthy race, which started on Sunday at 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM respectively from Alcalde Santiago Martínez Cabrejas street, exceeded 5,000 participants across all modalities, selling out all bib numbers.
This edition of the Half Marathon, organized by Nexal 2020 with the support of the City Council, the Provincial Council, the Junta de Andalucía, and La Legión, among other sponsors, strengthened its connection with the Mediterranean Sea. The circuit included 10 kilometers along the Paseo Marítimo, consolidating the event within the 'Blue Event' concept.
