The Andalusian Audiovisual Council (CAA), along with the ten public Andalusian universities, launches a new edition of the “Mayores con Wifi” program to enhance the digital skills of older adults.

Coinciding with the International Day of Older Persons, the Andalusian Audiovisual Council (CAA) has launched a new edition of “Mayores con Wifi”. This digital training program once again counts on the participation of the ten public Andalusian universities. The objective is to continue providing older adults with knowledge and tools to navigate the digital environment with greater security, autonomy, and confidence.
The initiative, born from the digital access difficulties that became particularly visible during the pandemic, focuses on digital and media literacy through practical learning. The content addresses everyday situations such as carrying out administrative procedures, using health services, shopping online, communicating with family and friends, and identifying misleading content and potential online fraud.
The new edition maintains its practical and in-person nature. Over ten training sessions, participants will become familiar with issues related to cybersecurity, digital identity, online shopping and management, social networks, and responsible information consumption, among other topics. The program is accompanied by an updated manual, conceived as a reference material to apply acquired knowledge outside the classroom.
Each session lasts 120 minutes and combines the explanation of planned content with a specific space to address participants' questions and difficulties. This way, learning is adapted to the real needs of the students, fostering close, understandable, and useful training. The collaborating universities are those of Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Málaga, Sevilla, Pablo de Olavide, and UNED, extending the program throughout Andalusia and helping to reduce digital inequalities.
Since its launch, nearly 1,500 older adults have participated in “Mayores con Wifi”, reflecting the demand for such initiatives and the need to continue strengthening the digital skills of a population that performs more and more activities and procedures online.
The program pays special attention to rural areas and places where access, training, or support difficulties can increase the digital divide. The experience from previous editions has allowed workshops to be held in Andalusian municipalities, bringing training closer to citizens and preventing distance from major urban centers from becoming a barrier to participation in the digital society.
With this new edition, the CAA and the public Andalusian universities renew their commitment to the digital inclusion of older adults. Technological literacy is understood not only as a matter of device handling but also as a tool to reinforce personal autonomy, critical capacity, and social participation, ensuring that digital transformation advances without leaving anyone behind.
