The event, held in the Conference Room of the Health Sciences Building, served to honor the effort and dedication of students, professors, and researchers. The ceremony was attended by Gabriel Aguilera, Vice-Rector for Sustainability, Health, and Sports, alongside Pablo Román, Dean of the Faculty, and Isabel María Fernández Medina, Secretary.
“"Today is one of those days when the University ceases to be just a place of work or study, to become, very clearly, a community. We celebrate our patron saint within the framework of World Health Day. And it is no coincidence, we are part of that 55% of faculties in Spain that have understood that health is not understood in watertight compartments, but as a perfect gear of shared knowledge."
During his speech, Dean Pablo Román emphasized the human value of the institution and the comprehensive vision of health promoted by the faculty. He also took the opportunity to highlight the urgent growth needs of the center, stressing the importance of a firm institutional and budgetary commitment for the execution of the second phase of expansion and the construction of the Teaching and Research Building next to Torrecárdenas Hospital.
The event included the presentation of awards to students with the best academic records for the 2024/25 academic year. Among the honorees were Alejandro Winderholler Heinzenknecht in Nursing, Fouad El Aissati Arbib in Physiotherapy, and Cristofer Ruiz González in Medicine. In master's programs, the excellence of Paula Anabella García Ulloa, Olivia Calderón Pérez, Álvaro Cristóbal Marín Lozano, and Pablo Gallego Mancebos was recognized.
Tributes were also paid to research work, highlighting professors included in the prestigious Ranking of the World Scientists by Stanford University, such as Lorena Gutiérrez Puertas, Remedios López Liria, Sagrario Pérez de la Cruz, Pablo Román López, and María Dolores Ruiz Fernández. Recognition was also given to faculty members who have retired and those who have completed 25 years of service to the institution.
The festive day concluded with the traditional singing of the university anthem Gaudeamus Igitur and a convivial breakfast. In the afternoon, the University Auditorium hosted the talk 'Sex, bodies and health: Real questions, unfiltered answers,' featuring psychologist and sexologist Andrés Suro Martos and gynecologist Silvia Tapiador Albertos, attracting over 500 attendees.
