The city of Almería is preparing for its 2026 Sports Fair, an event that will offer an extensive program featuring 24 sports disciplines and a total of 45 competitions. According to the Councilor for Active City, Urban Mobility, and Sport, Antonio Casimiro, this figure represents a 12% increase compared to the 2025 edition, reflecting the growth of an event that seeks to provide a sports offering for all ages and preferences.
The sports offerings range from chess and badminton to canoeing and open water swimming, including indoor, table, track, water, beach, grass, precision, strategy, and endurance sports. Most of these events will take place between August 21 and 29.
Antonio Casimiro highlighted the combination of traditional events with new modalities. Among those maintaining their legacy are the Frontón Tournament (131st edition), the Children's and Youth Sea Fishing Trophy (54th edition), the Andalusian Sports Fishing Contest (44th edition), the Chess Open (40th edition), and the Canoeing Regatta (33rd edition). On the other hand, sports like klask, pickleball, and speedcubing are being incorporated and consolidated, reflecting attention to new sports trends.
The event also emphasizes grassroots sports, with initiatives such as the 17th Diverbasket 3x3 Tournament and children's and youth fishing competitions. Inclusion is another fundamental pillar, evidenced by the VI Inclusive Open Water Swim Carlos Tejada and the Wheelchair Basketball Cup.
The councilor stressed that the magnitude of the Sports Fair is possible thanks to Almería's modern sports facilities and its favorable climate, which allows for outdoor physical activity year-round. He also highlighted the role of local clubs and athletes in maintaining a strong sports culture.
Casimiro also pointed out the economic benefits of sports, as many competitions attract participants and companions from other towns, boosting tourism, hospitality, and local commerce. He thanked the technicians of the Municipal Sports Board, the clubs, and the sports federations for their involvement.
Finally, councilors Antonio Casimiro and Eloisa Cabrera invited residents and tourists to participate in and enjoy the 2026 Sports Fair.
