Almería Anticipates Millionaire Sales of Lopy and Arribas This Summer

Unión Deportiva Almería is bracing for an active summer transfer window, with the potential departures of two key figures, Dion Lopy and Sergio Arribas, who have attracted significant interest from European clubs.

Despite the team's focus on achieving promotion, UD Almería's sports management is already evaluating the future of its talents. Both Lopy and Arribas have had outstanding seasons, drawing attention from top-tier teams across Europe.
The club's board remains calm, thanks to the high release clauses for both players, set at 40 million euros. This strategy gives them a strong negotiating position, ensuring that no sales will be made below their market value. Even if the team achieves promotion to La Liga, the transfers of these players are considered likely, provided no injury issues arise.
Almería has established itself as a club with a selling philosophy, recognizing that after three seasons, Lopy and Arribas have reached their “optimal point of maturity” to generate the highest economic return. Although their contracts extend until June 2029, retaining them for another season seems challenging, especially considering that both have already played in La Liga and their agents are receiving numerous offers.
For forward Sergio Arribas, originally from Leganés, clubs such as Sporting de Portugal and Ajax of Amsterdam have already shown interest, recently joined by Italian Roma and English Sunderland. His sale could become the most significant transfer of the summer for the club, with an initial valuation that could be around 25 million euros. However, Real Madrid retains 50% of his rights, meaning half of the proceeds would go to the white club's coffers.
Regarding Dion Lopy, in the 2024 winter market, FC Barcelona showed interest after his standout performance at the Blaugrana stadium, though they did not make a formal offer due to financial fair play issues. Two German clubs, Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg, did offer up to 15 million euros, a sum that Almería declined. If a convincing offer arrives this summer, particularly from the Premier League where his profile as a line-breaking midfielder is valued, Stade Reims, his former club, reserved 20% of any capital gain. With an initial cost of 6.5 million euros plus variables, his asking price could approach 20 million.
