The Ministry of Development, Territorial Planning, and Housing has initiated the public information process for the preliminary draft and environmental impact study of the new green corridor that will connect Armilla, Churriana de la Vega, and Las Gabias. This new road will feature two lanes per direction of 3.5 meters, incorporating a BUS-VAO lane, along with wide shoulders and berms.
The project also includes a cycle-pedestrian path separated from vehicular traffic, protected by safety barriers and railings, and surrounded by "abundant forestation" intended to integrate into the environment and act as a CO2 sink. This infrastructure will facilitate access to the second ring road (A44) and serve as a bypass to alleviate traffic in populations like Armilla and Las Gabias.
The initiative aims to promote public transport and other sustainable mobility options through the BUS-VAO platform, cycle lanes, and the pedestrian path. Concurrently, the placement of park-and-ride facilities is being studied to facilitate transfers from private vehicles to public transport, connecting with the interchange at La Gloria, part of the southern extension of the Granada Metro.
The public information process, published in the Official Gazette of the Junta de Andalucía (BOJA), will be open for suggestions for 30 business days. The City Councils of Granada, Armilla, Churriana de la Vega, Cúllar Vega, and Las Gabias have already been informed.
The acting Minister of Development, Rocío Díaz, highlighted that the government of Juanma Moreno promoted a new concept of sustainable corridors. She recalled the reactivation of this bypass, which had been "completely paralyzed for a decade" before the current regional government took office, with the objective of reaching a consensus solution adapted to the needs of the Metropolitan Area of Granada.
