The Santa Fe City Council has taken a significant step by approving in a plenary session the officialization of its institutional symbols: the municipal flag and coat of arms. This measure aims to regularize emblems that, despite their widespread use since the beginning of democracy, previously lacked legal recognition and formal registration.
According to the Council, the absence of formal approval and registration for these symbols could have led to potential legal issues. In fact, the Junta de Andalucía had already requested in 2008 that the Council proceed with this process, a request that was not addressed by previous municipal administrations.
With this recent approval, the current Government team of Santa Fe resolves an "administrative anomaly" that had persisted for years, thereby providing the necessary legal backing for the flag and coat of arms that identify the locality.
Additionally, during the same plenary session, the official demonym for the municipality's inhabitants was approved, which will be "santaferino" for males and "santaferina" for females. This agreement will allow the initiation of procedures for its registration with the Real Academia Española, seeking formal recognition of this designation.
