Firefighters from the Provincial Fire Extinction Agency (APEI), under the Granada Provincial Council, have become a key reinforcement for interventions following the seismic series that began on August 15th. This special deployment allows for addressing needs, particularly in towns within the Metropolitan Area, where the capital's forces cannot handle the entire workload.
Approximately one hundred officers have participated since last Tuesday in over 325 required services across eight metropolitan towns: Ogíjares, Churriana de la Vega, Cúllar Vega, Las Gabias, Alhendín, Armilla, Cájar, and Gójar. Tasks have primarily focused on removing debris from roofs, chimneys, rubble, or elements that could fall onto public roads due to further seismic movements.
Calls have been filtered to mobilize up to two high-reach vehicle crews, responding to municipal needs. Ogíjares has been the most affected locality, registering the highest number of requests, according to sources from APEI itself.
These firefighters, dispatched from stations such as Guadix, Baza, Iznalloz, or Alhama, have covered services corresponding to their home areas, demonstrating specialization in the use of aerial ladders. In coordination with the capital's firefighters, requests from mayors have also been addressed to oversee actions in public spaces and buildings, including churches.
The increase in requests in recent days has been driven by the return of residents to their homes who were absent when their properties were damaged. This reinforcement is considered essential for restoring public normalcy after the tremors, especially those that occurred last Tuesday the 18th.
