The event, which took place at the Sala Escénica, was described as a “resounding success” by the organizers. The massive influx of participants even necessitated a change of venue just days before its start, highlighting the significant interest generated.
Among the distinguished speakers were mountain guide Rocío Monteoliva and renowned climber Eneko Pou, whose presentations left a “deep impression” on attendees. The mayor of Güéjar Sierra, José Robles, emphasized that this first edition “has more than met expectations of positioning Güéjar Sierra as a mountaineering reference.”
Rocío Monteoliva shared her inspiring journey, marked by the challenges of making her way in a traditionally male-dominated environment. Influenced by her father, a pioneer of Andalusian mountaineering, she left her career as a translator in Germany to dedicate herself fully to high-altitude mountaineering in Granada.
“"I had to achieve some milestone to be taken seriously."
The Granadian recalled her achievement of being the first woman to ski down the north face of Mulhacén. For his part, Eneko Pou highlighted his special connection with Sierra Nevada, a place that impressed him from his first visit, when he completed the 'tresmiles' traverse.
“"Afterwards, I descended, did the central gully of Veleta, and grew very fond of it."
The alpinist also mentioned his current focus on discovering new territories, despite adverse weather conditions during his stay in Sierra Nevada. The organization, led by Deputy Mayor for Sports, Sonia Fernández, and local mountaineer Marino Muñiz, is already working on future editions to consolidate the event in the Andalusian calendar and attract new figures from the national and international mountain sports scene.
