The environmental group has highlighted the potential adverse effects of such facilities, including the generation of foul odors, the emission of polluting gases, and risks to public health. They have also warned about possible damage to aquifers, an increase in heavy traffic in the area, and inherent difficulties in managing the 140,000 tons of livestock and agricultural waste the plant would process annually, a figure residents consider disproportionate compared to the 4,000 tons of waste generated by the municipality itself.
In response, Ecologistas en Acción has called for a protest rally on April 17, between 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM, in the Plaza de España in Alhendín. The aim is to demonstrate social rejection of the project, an opposition that has been led from the outset by the residents themselves, organized into the platform 'STOP Macroplanta Biometano Alhendín y la Vega de Granada'.
“"The Town Hall is currently preparing a report to be sent to the Junta de Andalucía, which, according to the Environment Councillor, Cristian García, is highly likely to be unfavorable."
The Alhendín Town Council has also expressed its disagreement with the initiative, supporting the residents' stance with technical reports indicating potential non-compliance with urban planning regulations. Environment Councillor Cristian García has stated that the municipal report to be sent to the Junta de Andalucía will likely be unfavorable. Similarly, the La Malahá Town Council has announced the preparation of allegations and an online signature collection. The deadline for submitting allegations to the Junta de Andalucía is April 20.
