This prestigious recognition, awarded by the Scientific Museums of A Coruña and the City Council of A Coruña, highlights the event's trajectory for combining multiple forms of scientific outreach with the promotion of citizen participation. The jury, meeting on September 19 and 20, valued the festival's consolidated work, which began in 2013.
For over a decade, 'Desgranando Ciencia' has brought science to various stages in the city of Granada through short talks, shows, workshops, and activities for all audiences. In 2026, it evolved into 'Desgranando FEST', a more ambitious format that extended to 15 towns in the province, utilizing theaters, squares, schools, libraries, bars, museums, and heritage sites.
The festival is supported by the City Council of Granada and the Provincial Council of Granada, and is part of the city's bid to be European Capital of Culture in 2031. The collaboration of the University of Granada, the 6 CSIC centers in Granada, the Parque de las Ciencias, and the European Space Agency (ESERO Spain, ESA), among others, has been fundamental to its development.
Óscar Huertas Rosales, president of Hablando de Ciencia and director of the festival, described the award as a "collective tribute to the work and contribution of hundreds of people and institutions" over 13 years. Meanwhile, Marga Sánchez, Vice-Rector for University Extension at the University of Granada, emphasized the importance of this work in "transmitting knowledge to citizens".
Emilio García, head of the Scientific Culture Unit at the Andalusian Institute of Astrophysics (IAA-CSIC), noted that the IAA-CSIC has sponsored the event since its inception, considering it "an authentic laboratory of innovative dissemination". Lourdes López, head of the Scientific Dissemination Section at the Parque de las Ciencias, added that the award recognizes "collaboration, teamwork, diversity, and the alliance of committed people and institutions".
The Prismas Casa de las Ciencias Awards annually recognize the best scientific dissemination works. In this edition, other awardees include works in video, new media, projects on water, journalistic articles, radio, and published books.
