The municipality of Atarfe has officially launched the 24th edition of the International Jazz on the Lake Festival, one of the most established jazz events nationally. The presentation, held at the Town Hall Square, featured live music and unveiled the details of this renowned Granada cultural event.
The musical opening was by David Margam & The Magnetics, led by guitarist David Margam. Their performance served as a preview of the vibrant spirit of the festival, which will take place in the idyllic Ermita de los Tres Juanes Natural Park.
The mayor of Atarfe, Yolanda Fernández, highlighted the importance of jazz in the municipality, not only during the festival but throughout the year thanks to the Big Bang Atarfe. She emphasized the cultural and tourist impact of the event, which attracts thousands of people and promotes Atarfe nationally and internationally.
The Councilor for Culture, Jennifer García, noted that the festival draws around 1,500 to 2,000 people, representing a significant boost for consumption and promotion within the municipality.
This year, the festival will pay a moving tribute to the centenary of the birth of Miles Davis, a pivotal figure in jazz history. The project Sketches of Latin Miles, directed by Pepe Rivero, will reinterpret the legendary trumpeter's work from a latin jazz, bebop, and his experimental electric stages perspective.
The Big Band Atarfe, formed in 2007, will play a prominent role with a show dedicated to the music of Gordon Goodwin, a composer honored with multiple Grammy and Emmy awards. The ensemble, with a long history and strong ties to the festival, will present a repertoire blending swing, funk, and latin jazz.
The program will be rounded out by Palm Street Collective, a group of young professional musicians exploring contemporary jazz with flamenco influences and improvisation, bringing a fresh and innovative perspective to the festival's lineup.
Over its 24 editions, the International Jazz on the Lake Festival has established Atarfe as a major cultural hub in Andalusia, attracting thousands of enthusiasts annually thanks to its quality programming, national and international artists, and unique setting.
