The A-4003 road, a strategic route connecting Huétor Santillán with El Fargue and the capital city of Granada, is undergoing significant emergency repair works. The total investment amounts to 1.3 million euros, aimed at rectifying severe damage caused by intense storms in January and February, which led to cracks and subsidence on the roadway, compromising hillside stability and traffic safety.
The works, which are well underway and being executed between kilometer markers 2 and 2+100, include the construction of reinforced concrete screens for ground stabilization, comprehensive resurfacing, improvement of the drainage system, and replacement of road protection elements. According to the acting Minister of Development, Territorial Planning, and Housing, Rocío Díaz, the project is 75% complete and is expected to finish in the second half of July.
“"This is a necessary emergency project, which we are also using to address a long-standing demand with a pedestrian walkway that will help residents travel safely along this stretch of road."
In addition to stabilizing and resurfacing the road, the intervention addresses a historical request from the Huétor Santillán Town Hall by constructing a new sidewalk. This measure aims to enhance the safety of pedestrians in this section.
This investment is in addition to another project already completed at kilometer marker 3.9, on the bypass of Huétor Santillán. In that area, the Ministry of Development invested 280,000 euros to renew the road surface, enhance luminous signage, and install speed bumps, responding to a history of accidents on that stretch.
Minister Rocío Díaz highlighted that these works are part of a broader plan to address the damage from the February storms. In the province of Granada, 35 million euros have been allocated for interventions on 61 sections of 25 regional roads, many of which are already completed or nearing completion.
