Officers from the Civil Guard have apprehended two men in Almodóvar del Río, accused of multiple theft offenses. One of the detainees also faces charges for causing damage and endangering public safety, given the critical nature of the infrastructure targeted by the thefts.
The investigation commenced following several reports filed between March 18 and 24, detailing the theft of cabling from high-speed railway lines passing through Almodóvar del Río, as well as from local nurseries. The ROCA team of the Civil Guard, leading the inquiry, quickly identified a suspect due to the consistent modus operandi across the incidents.
Given the severity of these acts, which jeopardized both infrastructure safety and public security, a surveillance operation was launched. During this operation, agents received a report of a burglary at a nearby residence, leading them to identify two men with prior records for similar offenses. One of these individuals matched the description of the primary suspect in the high-speed cable thefts.
The first individual was arrested in flagrante delicto while attempting to steal cabling from the same affected railway section. Days later, the second suspect, allegedly involved in the house burglary, was located and detained. These actions by the Civil Guard have resulted in the resolution of six theft cases, along with others related to property damage and critical infrastructure security, recovering some of the stolen material and significantly enhancing railway transit safety.
