The thirty-first edition of the Joaquín Sánchez Memorial, a prominent sporting and social event in La Carlota, is set to exceed all expectations with historic participation figures. The main event will be held on Sunday, October 11.
During the official presentation, attended by the Mayor of La Carlota, the Sports Councilor, representatives from local clubs, and the collaborating company COTUBO, it was highlighted that all available spots for the activities have been filled.
The 10-kilometer race will feature 470 runners, while the Base Races will involve over 430 children. Hiking will have 150 participants, pickleball 40, and tennis 12, with all its slots also completely filled.
Activities will commence on Friday, October 9, with a 3x3 Football Tournament that will bring together more than 150 children from the Municipal Football School.
The Mayor of La Carlota, Antonio Granados, emphasized that the participation numbers reflect the growth and deep-rooted sentiment for the Memorial within the municipality. Beyond the competition, activities for families and companions will be offered, including inflatable castles, go-karts, and face painting around the Municipal Stadium.
The 2026 edition will include a moving tribute to Rafa Ruiz Capitán, known as “Secretario”, a figure closely associated with the Memorial. In his memory, the finish line straight of the Municipal Stadium will be renamed “La Recta de la Eterna Sonrisa” (The Straight of the Eternal Smile).
The mayor expressed gratitude for the involvement of the Miguel Ríos Athletics Club, the hiking and pickleball clubs, sports schools, volunteers, families, and collaborating companies in organizing the event.
