Carmen Granados, delegate for Public Works and Mobility of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba, met with council members from Hornachuelos, Fuente Palmera, and Fuente Carreteros in Palma del Río to plan the adhesion of these municipalities to the tariff system of the Metropolitan Transport Consortium of the Córdoba Area, set for 2027.
This meeting is part of a series of consultations the Junta de Andalucía is holding with the affected town councils to coordinate planning and identify the specific mobility needs of each locality. The expansion planned for 2027 will incorporate 14 new municipalities, extending the benefits of metropolitan transport to more provincial citizens.
Granados emphasized the importance of direct dialogue with the town councils to ensure the integration aligns with each municipality's characteristics. "We want to listen to the town councils, understand the mobility needs of their residents, and begin planning this integration together so that it reflects the reality of each municipality," stated the delegate.
The tariff integration will grant users from the incorporated municipalities access to advantages such as a 30% discount on travel fares through the Consortium's card, along with other benefits of the integrated tariff system. This initiative aims to improve access to public transport with subsidized fares and foster greater connection between these towns and Córdoba city.
The expansion process is part of the Sustainable Mobility Plan for the Córdoba Area, which establishes the framework for incorporating new municipalities and enhancing public transport connections.
For her part, the mayor of Palma del Río, Matilde Esteo, highlighted that joining the Consortium addresses a demand from users to improve the municipality's connectivity, recognizing Palma del Río as a regional reference center. She underscored the importance of public transport alternatives given issues with the rail service, offering residents "a safe, accessible public transport option tailored to their needs."
Municipal representatives presented their proposals and requirements regarding public transport, which will be analyzed for future integration planning. The Junta will continue these meetings in the coming weeks to finalize the tariff adhesion.
