The works, which include pavement improvement with a new wearing course over five centimeters thick, also involve the adaptation of the parallel pedestrian path. The existing barrier has been removed, and new separation elements will be installed between the roadway and the pedestrian area.
The mayor of Andújar, Francisco Carmona, and the territorial delegate for Development, Miguel Contreras, visited the site. Carmona emphasized the importance of this action for a road with high traffic volume and essential connection to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Cabeza and the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park. He recalled that a previous intervention was carried out on the section between the Jándula Bridge and Los Pinos.
Contreras explained that this intervention is part of the Extraordinary Asphalt Improvement Plan of the Regional Government of Andalusia, which allocates 17.5 million euros to regional roads in the province of Jaén. He assured the commitment to continue improving the A-6177 from the Jándula Bridge to the Sanctuary.
The mayor framed these improvements in preparation for the 8th Centenary of the apparition of the Virgen de la Cabeza in 2027, an event that will highlight the need for secure communications. Carmona thanked the Regional Government for the investment, stating that it "greatly improves the communication" between Andújar and the Sanctuary.
