Operational Services have begun the conditioning and beautification of the roundabout at the intersection of Avenida de las Américas with the access to the new commercial area, home to the Mercadona supermarket. The objective is twofold: to reinforce road safety at this busy intersection and to beautify the roundabout itself with the installation of a new sculpture.
The sculpture is the work of artist Manuel Marín, who was based in Alhaurín de la Torre until his death in 2007. Marín, born in Cieza (Murcia) in 1942, focused his production from 1969 onwards on mobile sculptures, a discipline in which he exhibited internationally.
The Operational Services Department is coordinating the landscaping work for the roundabout's central island. These efforts complement the road safety improvements already carried out on the right-hand sidewalk, where new pedestrian crossings and ramps have been installed.
The Road Signage Department has reorganized the surface parking area, transitioning from parallel to angled parking spaces, nearly doubling its capacity. The work on the roundabout includes surface conditioning, the installation of a concrete platform for the sculpture, correction of the camber, and renewal of the curb with granite cobblestones.
Necessary conduits and manholes will also be installed for the pre-installation of new lighting at the intersection.
