While the child enjoyed her bath, seemingly unaware of urban planning controversies, onlookers were surprised and took photographs. This event suggests that the fountain, in addition to its aesthetic purpose, might serve a cooling function, especially with summer just around the corner.
The reason didn't matter: some simply predicted that, sooner or later, the Puerta de Purchena fountain would get someone wet.
