This initiative is consolidated as a key resource for child care and the promotion of family conciliation during the months of July and August. Participants will receive a special gift to enjoy the scheduled activities.
The President of the Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, visited the Summer School in María on its opening day. There, he exchanged impressions with students and families, and accompanied the children on their first visit to the Municipal Swimming Pool. He was joined by the deputy mayor, Carmen Beteta, and the team of monitors and lifeguards.
García Alcaina highlighted the "incredible work" of the monitors and the Council's team, emphasizing that the program not only offers entertainment but is "the engine that allows thousands of families to work and reconcile with the peace of mind that their children are in the best hands." The Council thus reaffirms its commitment to municipalism, ensuring that children in small municipalities have the same leisure and conciliation opportunities as those in large cities.
The objectives of the schools are twofold: firstly, to offer minors a wide range of social, educational, sports, cultural, environmental, and recreational activities, fostering positive attitudes towards coexistence, values education, responsibility, autonomy, and positive leisure. Secondly, they serve as a pillar of support for working families, directly contributing to work-life balance in rural areas.
The Council's financial aid covers essential expenses such as the hiring of monitors, materials for workshops and dynamics, and any necessary travel for the minors. The contribution is distributed to reach all corners of the province's interior, including areas like the Alpujarra (Alcolea, Berja, Fondón), Alto Almanzora (Serón, Purchena), Alto Andarax (Canjáyar, Alhama), Bajo Andarax (Benahadux, Gádor), Filabres Alhamilla (Tabernas, Lubrín), Levante Norte (Cuevas, Pulpí), Levante Sur (Mojácar, Garrucha), Los Vélez (María, Vélez-Blanco), Mármol (Cantoria, Fines), Río Nacimiento (Abla, Fiñana), Poniente (Enix, Felix), and Saliente (Albox, Arboleas).
In the Summer School of María, over 100 children are enrolled in three age-based groups. The municipality has 6 monitors and one intern. Activities will take place in the pavilion, the Ludoteca (playroom), and the Municipal Swimming Pool.
