The events took place around 1:00 PM at the health facilities in the Sevillian municipality. The incident began when a patient's companion reacted violently to the priority given to urgent cases.
According to the union's account, the alleged aggressor uttered death threats to the doctor, along with racist insults such as "go back to your country, to the jungle with the monkeys, lousy, black." The situation escalated when the individual elbowed a nurse, attempting to physically assault the doctor. This assault was prevented thanks to the intervention of another patient's companion.
We cannot allow going to work to become a risky situation. Protecting our professionals is an unavoidable institutional responsibility. Not one more aggression.
Following the incident, the assaulted doctor filed a complaint with the Guardia Civil in Pruna. The healthcare professional will provide authorities with security camera footage from the health center, which reportedly captured the events.
The Seville Medical Union has "firmly" condemned this aggression, highlighting the alarming increase in such incidents. The organization also lamented the assaults suffered by other healthcare personnel during their assistance work.
The SMS has called for increased protection for healthcare professionals and demanded "effective measures against any threat, coercion, or aggression, verbal or physical, in the healthcare setting." They have also encouraged all professionals who experience such situations to report them to shed light on a growing problem.
