The Department of Security and Traffic of the Casariche City Council has announced new obligations concerning electric scooters and other Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs), which will take effect on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
These modifications, incorporated into the updated General Traffic Regulations, aim to primarily improve road safety and foster a more secure coexistence among different road users.
Among the most significant changes that PMV users must consider are:
- Minimum age of 15 years to operate a PMV.
- Mandatory use of a protective helmet.
- Mandatory use of a reflective vest or element during nighttime or in low visibility conditions.
- Prohibition of riding on sidewalks and pedestrian areas, except for any exceptions that may be established.
- Mandatory registration of the PMV with the DGT Registry and affixing the corresponding identification.
- Mandatory civil liability insurance.
- Only one person per PMV will be allowed.
- Adherence to the permitted speeds and routes for these types of vehicles.
- No use of mobile phones or headphones while driving.
- No driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
