The Plan Savia 2026 of the Provincial Council of Almería will transform the landscape of 98 population centers in the province, as confirmed by the institution's president, José Antonio García Alcaina, after visiting the Provincial Nursery. This initiative aims to enhance the sustainability and environmental care of Almería's municipalities.
The 2026 edition of Plan Savia has a direct investment of 334,552 euros, benefiting 52 town halls and 98 population centers. A total of 25,711 plants will be distributed, including 510 palm trees, 2,951 large trees, and over 21,500 perennial plants and small trees, to carry out 323 urban and landscape improvement projects.
The strategic objective of this plan is to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve air quality, and increase urban biodiversity, while also creating new shaded areas for residents' comfort, especially during the summer months.
Plan Savia, launched in 2014, has involved a cumulative investment of over 3 million euros, generating an induced investment of approximately 4.5 million. Over the past decade, more than 1.6 million square meters of new green areas have been created, offsetting the emissions from the province's municipal vehicle fleets.
Environmentally, the distributed plants absorb about 3,031 tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the emissions of nearly 2,500 vehicles. The Provincial Nursery, spanning 91,346 m² (with 58,145 m² dedicated to cultivation), is the hub of this initiative, producing native plants and offering technical advice and training.
