The municipality of Alcalá la Real in Jaén has launched its Smart Tourist Signage Plan, a key initiative within the Sustainable Tourism Plan for Destinations (PSTD) 'Connecting Alcalá la Real'. This project is financed by the Next Generation European funds, part of the Spanish Government's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
The project, awarded to the company Sismotur S.L. for 28,798 euros, integrates the digital tools Signing and Inventrip. These will manage physical tourist signage and provide updated, personalized information for visitors, adapting to new ways of planning and enjoying travel.
“"New technologies are transforming how people plan and enjoy their trips, with the goal of improving the experience for those visiting Alcalá, facilitating access to useful and up-to-date information about our heritage, cultural offerings, and tourist resources."
A central element of the project is the free mobile application Inventrip. Visitors can download it to organize their trip before arriving, design personalized itineraries, and access contextualized information upon reaching the destination. The app automatically detects the device's language, offering content in multiple languages for broader accessibility.
The system will also enable interaction with smart signage installed at points of interest via dynamic QR codes, NFC technology, and electronic beacons. Through these, visitors can obtain information about their location, nearby resources, and receive recommendations for monuments, activities, and services.
This initiative aims to standardize the visual identity of the municipality's tourist signage, define itineraries connecting key heritage, cultural, and natural sites, and integrate private tourism offerings into a more comprehensive digital information network. It represents the first phase of a broader strategy to make Alcalá la Real an increasingly smart, accessible, and sustainable destination.
