The Regional Government of Andalusia, through the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs, confirmed on August 18th the circulation of the West Nile virus in Culex pipiens mosquitoes captured in a trap located on the outskirts of Guillena. This detection led to the declaration of the municipality as an Alert zone, as the trap was found less than 1.5 km from the urban center.
After four consecutive weeks without evidence of new West Nile virus circulation, the alert ended on September 14th. During this period, the Health Department of the Guillena City Council implemented extraordinary measures for the surveillance and control of vector mosquitoes, including increased inspection of larval breeding sites, public information campaigns, and the expansion of vector control measures.
The municipality remains at a high risk level, so surveillance and control actions will continue. Residents are reminded of the importance of adopting individual preventive measures, such as avoiding stagnant water in containers, keeping swimming pools and tanks clean, using mosquito nets, and turning off unnecessary lights.

Other actions undertaken by the council have included intensifying the search for new larval breeding sites or adult refuges, and establishing communication with health services for more active case detection in humans.
