The new facility, intended for pets, is situated in the Mónica Aragón public park, adjacent to the La Atlántida primary school. The Department of Environment has invested approximately 10,000 euros to fence off an area of over 1,000 square meters, which includes vegetation for shade, water fountains for people and dogs, and benches.
Mayor José María Román highlighted that this initiative responds to a neighborhood demand, as the area was already frequented by dog owners. "This area has been created and conditioned for the enjoyment of animals, so they don't soil other parts of the neighborhood," he explained, adding that the goal is for them to "use these parks and not the public street for animals to relieve themselves."
With this opening, Chiclana now has six dog parks, joining those already existing in the Jardines de Urbisur, the Huerta O’farrell neighborhood, Fuente Amarga, El Doctoral, and El Molino Viejo. The mayor also mentioned that a space for cats is being prepared, in compliance with the Animal Welfare Law.

Mónica Ávila, present at the event, emphasized the importance of these spaces to prevent excrement on public streets. Meanwhile, Francisca Guerrero, representative of the Recreo San Pedro Neighborhood Association, thanked the initiative, stressing the need to keep the city clean and promote citizen awareness for the health of the streets.
The new dog area is enclosed by a perimeter fence and includes urban furniture and a fountain.
