The plan, presented by the councilor delegate for Local Police and Civil Protection, Mariola Aranda, and the chief superintendent of the Local Police, José Pereira, aims to ensure safety and facilitate access to the Fairgrounds. New park-and-ride zones will be implemented to alleviate vehicle congestion in the vicinity.
To enhance surveillance, a drone and a canine unit will be deployed. The Local Police force will consist of 62 officers handling approximately 400 services, supported by Civil Protection volunteers during peak crowd times. The CECOP (Operational Coordination Center) will be reinstalled to improve inter-service coordination and expedite responses to incidents.
Aranda recommended using public transport and following the Local Police's traffic and access guidance. She assured that, despite the concentration of people at the Fairgrounds, the rest of the city will maintain its usual police presence, with reinforcements in key areas.
Coordination between Security Forces and Bodies, Emergency Services, and municipal departments is crucial for this large-scale event. Local Police Chief José Pereira highlighted that, following last year's success, a dedicated unit for the fairground's booth area will be maintained, alongside officers trained in public security for preventive duties.
The plan also includes controls on leisure activities and street vending, management of loading and unloading zones, and enhanced public transport services (bus and taxi) with extended routes and schedules to connect all city neighborhoods to the Fairgrounds. Additionally, specific protection services for women (PROMUPOL) will be strengthened for rapid and effective assistance in potential gender-based violence cases.
