The Provincial Council of Jaén has announced the construction of a pedestrian path that will link the town of Estación Linares-Baeza with the Guadalimar Greenway Natural Path. This project, with a budget of 108,000 euros, addresses a long-standing demand from residents of this autonomous local entity (ELA) within the municipality of Linares.
The second vice-president and deputy for Institutional Relations, Javier Perales, explained that the new route will allow residents to access the Greenway without having to use the Miraelrío road, a stretch considered dangerous due to heavy vehicle traffic, especially during the olive harvest season. The path will be 350 meters long and will extend from the end of the town's urban area to the entrance of the greenway's bridge.
Perales highlighted the importance of this action for the safety and well-being of the residents, noting that the budget allocation will be included in the provincial budgets for 2027 to expedite its execution. He regretted, however, that the Linares City Council has begun selling a section of the Linares Greenway that borders the start of the new path, which could have facilitated a more direct connection between the two greenways.
For his part, the mayor of Estación Linares-Baeza, Melchor Villalba, expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, calling it "highly demanded" by the citizens. He emphasized that the Guadalimar Greenway Natural Path is a fundamental space for sports and connecting with nature, and that the new infrastructure will ensure greater safety for its users.
The new pedestrian path will feature a surface with a 25-centimeter layer of artificial gravel, a 5-centimeter asphalt layer, and a final layer of green cold micro-asphalt. It will include a safety barrier and a protective fence made of wood-like materials to distinguish it from the road.
