The seismic event, registered at 1:04 AM, led to the activation of the plan in emergency phase and operational situation 1. To date, no personal injuries have been reported, as explained by the first vice-president.
The 112 emergency number received over 200 calls, primarily from the province of Granada, but also from other Andalusian provinces, excluding Huelva and Cádiz. In the province of Jaén, approximately a dozen calls were made from municipalities including Jaén, Linares, Andújar, and La Carolina.
The earthquake's intensity was most strongly felt in Noalejo and Jabalcuz, reaching level III-IV, as well as in La Carolina and Santo Tomé. Other affected municipalities included Alcaudete, Begíjar, Bailén, and Porcuna.
Some citizens reported cracks in buildings, falling cornices, debris, and walls, along with damage to properties. Firefighters and Police are inspecting and cordoning off damaged areas to prevent further risks.
Antonio Sanz urged the public to respect the signage and stay away from affected zones. The Volunteer Architects Group of Andalusia (GAVE) has been activated to assess damage, and continuous contact is maintained with the Andalusian Institute of Geophysics and the Higher Council for Scientific Research to monitor seismic activity.
The Andalusian Emergency Agency (EMA) reminds the public about self-protection measures, as earthquakes cannot be predicted. It is advised to remain calm and stay in a safe place, avoiding unnecessary movement in and out of buildings.
It is recommended not to use elevators if cracks are observed and to follow emergency service instructions. Outdoors, it is crucial to stay clear of facades, cornices, and poles. Indoors, seek shelter under strong structures like tables or door frames and use stairs for evacuation, never elevators.
If inside a vehicle, it is advisable to stop immediately and remain inside until the shaking stops. After the tremor, check gas, water, and electricity lines, use the phone only for emergencies, and follow official instructions via radio and social media.
