The president of the Commonwealth has initiated discussions with various telephone companies, seeking a firm commitment to explore alternatives that will ensure network stability in the Sierra. As a result of these efforts, contact has been established with the Network and Services Support management of Telefónica España, the only administration that has so far responded to the complaint and is analyzing deficiencies to implement effective measures.
“"Internet fiber failures are threatening the development of a region already affected by a lack of infrastructure and depopulation."
The Commonwealth of Municipalities of Sierra de Cádiz has expressed deep concern over the constant cuts in telephone and internet services that have affected several municipalities in recent months. These incidents, far from being isolated, have become a structural problem that negatively impacts citizens' daily lives, the business fabric, public services, and administrative operations.
“"In the 21st century, access to stable and quality telecommunications is not a luxury, but a basic right and an essential condition to guarantee equal opportunities in rural areas."
The Commonwealth has repeatedly sent formal letters to the service providers, requesting explanations and urgent solutions. At the beginning of the term, a meeting was held with the territorial delegate of Industry in Cádiz, and efforts will continue with competent administrations and supply companies to ensure that the Sierra no longer experiences these precarious situations.
The continuous outages are causing direct harm to key sectors such as local commerce, rural tourism, education, and healthcare, in addition to generating growing frustration among residents of the Sierra de Cádiz. In recent weeks, this situation has particularly affected the municipality of Ubrique, whose mayor has expressed concern and presented a motion in the municipal plenary session to urge all administrations to reinforce demands for improvements in the Sierra.
