The Teatro de la Axerquía in Córdoba, in collaboration with the Municipal Institute of Performing Arts (IMAE) and the Regional Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía, will host three artistic residencies during September and October. Each project will have a maximum duration of four consecutive weeks.
The selected projects explore diverse creative facets. Manuel Ruiz will present 'Il Primo Uomo. El cuerpo como partitura', a staged recital focusing on the figure of castrati in Baroque opera. Meanwhile, Margarita Merino and Pepa Ortuño will offer 'Palos y astillas', a hybrid scenic proposal that investigates memory and emotional inheritance through the dialogue between body, voice, and matter, based on an autobiographical installation. Finally, Nieves Pedraza will present 'Perro suelto', a work addressing human domination over the natural world.
This initiative is part of the call for artistic residencies in dance, theatre, circus, and music, aimed at professional creators and companies in the performing arts and music sectors, published by the Andalusian Agency for Cultural Institutions. The program, running in the second half of 2026, will host 18 resident projects across the eight provinces of Andalusia, utilizing venues such as the Estadio in Seville, Rey Chico in Granada, La Térmica in Málaga, and La Rábida in Huelva.
Selected projects will receive a grant of 3,000 euros plus VAT, with the exception of dramaturgy works which will receive 1,500 euros plus VAT, also covering accommodation and maintenance. In return, participating companies must offer a training workshop and a public exhibition of the work developed.
The selection of projects was carried out by an evaluation committee chaired by the director of the Andalusian Institute of Performing Arts and Music, Violeta Hernández, and composed of subject matter experts. Nine alternates have also been appointed to cover any potential withdrawals.
