The exhibition organizers, based in the Sevillian capital, have contacted the Cordoban brotherhood to include the revered images from the Church of San Agustín. This request has been confirmed by the senior brother of the corporation, who stated that the final decision rests with the general chapter of brothers.
The brotherhood has asked for additional information about the exhibition to ensure that the brothers can make an informed decision. Although the date for the chapter meeting has not yet been set, it is expected to take place in the coming weeks as more details about the exhibition emerge.
The exhibition on Juan de Mesa has already confirmed the participation of other prominent works by the sculptor, such as the Cristo de la Vera-Cruz from Las Cabezas de San Juan (Seville). The Cristo de la Buena Muerte of the Estudiantes and the Yacente, titular of the Santo Entierro, both from Seville, have also been invited. However, the Cristo de la Agonía from Vergara (Guipúzcoa) will not be featured.
If the participation of the Virgen de las Angustias and the Cristo is confirmed, it would mark the second time the sculptural group has been exhibited outside of Córdoba. The first instance occurred in the 1950s, during an exhibition organized by Córdoba in Madrid.
