The Soria nº 9 Infantry Regiment, originally from Navarra, established its first garrison in Seville on April 6, 1876. This historical event has been honored with the placement of a plaque in the building that served as its first barracks in the Andalusian capital, following the disentailment of the 19th century.
In this building, the old Carmen barracks, the Soria nº 9 Infantry Regiment was first established upon its arrival as a garrison in the city of Seville, on April 6, 1876. The regiment and its veterans' brotherhood commemorate with this plaque the 150th anniversary of this event. Seville, April 11, 2026.
The plaque unveiling ceremony was attended by members of the Soria 9 Regiment, whose current base has been in Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, for three decades. The military unit remained in Seville for 130 years, from 1876 until its transfer to the islands.
Throughout its history, various personalities have been part of this regiment, including figures such as Juan Belmonte, Abel Moreno, Vigil de Quiñones, and more recently, Luis Navarro, a professor of American History.
