A citizens' platform, chaired by the San Fernando Swimming Club, has begun preparations for the events that will celebrate the designation of Braulio González as Adoptive Son of San Fernando. The city's mayor, Patricia Cavada, committed to making this recognition official before the end of 2026. González, originally from Pontevedra, has lived in San Fernando for nearly seven decades, becoming a prominent figure in local sports, both through his connection with the Navy and his work at the former Municipal Sports Board. The process for this designation, initiated last year, received the support of numerous organizations and personalities, including Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee.
The platform's organizing committee met on June 2nd and agreed to plan various activities for October and November, with exact dates yet to be set. Among the scheduled events is the premiere of a documentary about Braulio González's life, directed by José Ramón García. Additionally, a conference by Alejandro Blanco or a similar figure is planned, along with a tribute from the Gimnasio Raúl Calvo de Cádiz and a parallel event on the day of the award ceremony.
The platform has informed Braulio González and his family of these developments, which have been met with enthusiasm. The group continues its work to ensure that San Fernando, recognized as a city of sport, honors the career of this adopted resident.
