The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a red alert for extreme heat in Andalusia, forecasting maximum temperatures that could reach up to 45 ºC in locations such as Montoro (Córdoba) and in areas of Jaén. This situation is expected to persist until Wednesday, when a slight thermal decrease is anticipated before a potential new rise.
Heat warnings, at yellow and orange levels, will be in effect this Monday, June 22nd, between 1:00 PM and 8:59 PM in the provinces of Sevilla, Córdoba, Granada, Almería, and Jaén. Authorities recommend avoiding prolonged sun exposure, staying hydrated, and paying special attention to vulnerable groups.
The highest temperatures will be recorded in the vicinity of the Guadalquivir valley and the Morena y Condado region, in Jaén, where an orange alert has been activated for highs of up to 42 ºC. Some localities, such as Bailén, could momentarily reach 44 ºC.
In Sevilla, the northern sierra and the countryside will be under a yellow alert for highs of 39 ºC, which could locally reach 40 ºC. Similar conditions are expected in the Cordoban region of Sierra and Pedroches, and in the capital of Almería, which will not exceed 39 ºC.
For Tuesday, June 23rd, an increase in temperatures is forecast, especially in the Cordoban countryside, where the red alert warns of highs up to 45 ºC in locations like Montoro. In the Morena y Condado region, in Jaén, similar values are also expected, with up to 44 ºC in Bailén, Mengíbar, or Arjona.
Although the situation is expected to ease on Wednesday, June 24th, some orange alerts will remain active in the province of Jaén, as well as yellow alerts in Córdoba, with maximum temperatures not exceeding 39 ºC. A new thermal surge is anticipated towards the weekend.
