The Por Andalucía coalition has finalized the distribution of its lead candidates for the upcoming regional elections, assigning Izquierda Unida the responsibility of leading the candidacies in five of the eight Andalusian provinces: Sevilla, Málaga, Granada, Córdoba, and Almería. Meanwhile, Podemos will lead the list for Jaén and will appoint the second-place candidates in Sevilla and Málaga.
Movimiento Sumar has reserved the lead candidacy for Cádiz for its coordinator in Andalucía, Esperanza Gómez, while the Huelva constituency will be led by José Antonio Jiménez, co-spokesperson for Iniciativa del Pueblo Andaluz. These decisions were confirmed by sources from the four parties that, along with Verdes Equo, Alternativa Republicana, and Alianza Verde, form the coalition, following an agreement sealed last Good Friday, just before the deadline for registering electoral coalitions with the Junta Electoral de Andalucía.
The federal coordinator of IU, Antonio Maíllo, already designated as a candidate for the presidency of the Junta de Andalucía, will be the lead candidate for Sevilla. Regarding the internal structure, the coalition has agreed to create a 'Coordination Team' composed of 27 members, with eight representatives from IU Andalucía, eight from Podemos, five from Movimiento Sumar, and three from Iniciativa del Pueblo Andaluz, while the other parties will each have one representative.
The coalition's founding document, signed on April 3, stipulates that decisions will primarily be made by consensus, and failing that, by vote. It also details a code of ethics and operational regulations, as well as procedures for managing potential cases of political defection and the distribution of electoral subsidies based on each party's financial contribution.
In the 2022 Andalusian elections, Por Andalucía secured five seats, distributed across Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Málaga, and Sevilla. The new agreement also addresses the regulation of the future parliamentary group, whose strategic guidelines will be the responsibility of the 'Coordination Team' in dialogue with the group itself, applying criteria of proportionality, opportunity, specialization, and parity for leadership and spokespersons.
