Palma del Río is in mourning following the tragic death of Efrén Carazo Fernández, an airman in the Spanish Air Force. The incident occurred this Tuesday around 7:30 AM on the Autovía del Sur (A-4), near Carmona (Seville), as Efrén was on his way to the Tablada military base.
The young man, aged 29, suffered a flat tire and stopped to change it. At that moment, a van traveling towards Seville fatally struck him. The van's driver fled the scene and has not yet been located.
Sources from the Traffic Division of the Civil Guard of Seville, who are investigating the incident, have confirmed the details and are confident in locating the perpetrator soon. Efrén Carazo Fernández, besides being a military member, was preparing to join the Civil Guard.
Efrén was a well-known and beloved figure in Palma del Río, a community devastated by the news. He was described as a sporty and dedicated military man whose life was cut short while heading to his workplace.
The Spanish Air Force, along with other military institutions such as the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) and his base in Tablada, have expressed their condolences and observed mourning for the loss of their colleague.
This Wednesday, Efrén Carazo Fernández was laid to rest in his hometown, Palma del Río.
