The set of El Hormiguero recently welcomed actors Pedro Alonso and Begoña Vargas to present the new Netflix series, Berlín y la dama de armiño, a spin-off of La casa de papel which premiered globally on May 15th.
Pedro Alonso's radical appearance change, now featuring baldness and a white beard, was a central topic. The actor explained it stems from a film shoot in La Coruña, a characterization that allowed him to go unnoticed and experience a "lesson in humility." He joked about shaving his head completely for the series' promotion, admitting his real look was "very heavy."
Alonso also recounted surreal situations arising from his international fame, such as a "disturbing" proposal from Erdogan's government in Turkey to take a photograph with him, which he declined to avoid "political trouble." He also recalled how a fanatic tracked him down to the Amazon jungle solely to ask for an autograph.
Reflecting on the end of his tenure as Berlín, whom he called the "Aladdin's lamp" of his career, Alonso admitted the need for a "reset" after a delicate personal period. He cautioned the audience that Berlín is a "toxic, dissociated, very disturbed" character who ruins lives, despite the "joy" of playing him. He described the finale in Seville as "operatic, like Carmen."
For her part, Begoña Vargas highlighted her more relaxed experience with public recognition, allowing her to maintain a normal life. She praised the bond with her colleagues in this second season and surprised the audience by singing live. Pedro Alonso concluded his ten-year reflection on the character, noting he went from being a "middle-class" actor to living a "reality worthy of science fiction."
