Choosing the perfect outfit for Spring/Summer events can be a challenge. Stylist Ana Canalejo, founder of Room 717, highlights the importance of a capsule wardrobe with versatile basic pieces to successfully navigate the social calendar. "With basic garments and a few more special items, you can create powerful looks that adapt to any context," she explains during an event at Sevilla Fashion Outlet, in collaboration with We Love Flamenco.
Alongside Laura Sánchez, director of the flamenco fashion runway, Canalejo shared the secrets to the ideal guest look. "With a white blouse, a midi skirt, and a tailored suit, your guest outfits are sorted," she states. Current trends lean towards simplicity, where "less is more" takes center stage, making the capsule wardrobe the fundamental tool for the modern guest.
Canalejo identifies three essential pieces for this wardrobe foundation: a white shirt, "which never fails" and adapts to multiple combinations; a midi skirt, "perfect for building a look for both day and night"; and a tailored suit, "pieces that allow for many combinations" and can be adapted for daytime events or celebrations with the right accessories.
The stylist also emphasizes the transformative power of accessories. "With accessories, we can turn a somewhat plain look into a real showstopper," she comments, demonstrating how high heels, a Panama hat, and a wicker bag can elevate an outfit with polka dot trousers and a cardigan, reminiscent of the iconic scene from Pretty Woman.
When combining seemingly disparate pieces, Canalejo recommends finding a point of balance through colors, jewelry, or a creative concept. "Ultimately, it's about having a styling idea that makes sense and gives coherence to the entire look," she adds, advising to err on the side of minimalism if in doubt.
In addition to basic garments, the capsule wardrobe is complemented by "accent pieces," which are more special items. Canalejo suggests pairing a striking bodice with classic trousers and a blazer for balance, or a ruffled skirt with a classic cotton white shirt for a more wearable touch. "When you opt for a bold piece, it's preferable to keep the rest of the look with slightly simpler elements so that it stands out as the star," she concludes, recommending evenings for more creative risks and religious celebrations for something more discreet.
