The new 2026-27 season at the Villamarta Theater in Jerez features a diverse program aiming to match or exceed the previous season's record of over 100,000 spectators. Theater director Carlos Granados and Culture delegate Francisco Zurita unveiled the lineup, which includes genres for all audiences and attractive discounts to enhance accessibility.
The program pays tribute to the 150th anniversary of Manuel de Falla, opening the 'Lyrical and Classical' cycle on October 2nd with an original production of 'El amor brujo' and 'La vida breve'. This production, intended for touring, is directed by Carlos Roó, choreographed by Eduardo Guerrero, musically directed by Carlos Domínguez-Nieto, and designed by Jesús Ruiz. Performers include dancer Eduardo Guerrero, singer Miguel Ángel Heredia, soprano Maribel Ortega, Antoni Lliteres, and the Orquesta Bética de Sevilla.
Other highlights include recitals by soprano Berna Perles and pianist Rubén Fernández, the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, and Benjamin Britten's 'War Requiem' conducted by Álvaro Albiach. The theater will also present its own production of Puccini's 'Tosca', staged by Jorge Torres and musically directed by Manuel Busto, with plans for a future co-production of Massenet's 'Werther'.
Classical music offerings feature the Granada City Orchestra, the Royal Symphonic Orchestra of Seville, and the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Andalucía Sinfónica Program. The Andalusian Youth Orchestra, led by Álvaro Albiach, will perform with vocalists Berna Perles, Javier Alonso, and Joan Martín-Royo. The cycle opens with the Bruma Quartet and includes performances by pianist Edoardo Torbanelli, the duo Sofía Torres and Dominkos Csabay, guitarist José Luis Pastor, and pianist Ramón Grau.
The theater program leans towards comedy, with an adaptation of 'La venganza de Don Mendo' by Paco Mir, monologues by Patricia Galván and Toni Acosta, and shows by groups like Yllana and Comandante Lara. Other theatrical productions include 'Camino a la Meca' starring Lola Herrera, Stephen King's 'Misery', and 'El retablo de las maravillas' by Els Joglars.
The musical 'The Sound of Music' will be staged in early October, directed by Silvia Villaú. The Film Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Constantino Martínez-Orts, will perform film scores. Contemporary music features artists such as El Kanka and Diana Navarro, alongside carnival performances by Martínez Ares's Comparsa and flamenco artists including Vicente Soto ‘Sordera’, Fernando Soto, and Pepe del Morao.
Dance performances include the Kiev Ballet with 'The Nutcracker' and flamenco artists like Sara Baras, Mercedes Ruiz, and María del Mar Moreno. The Christmas celebration will feature traditional 'zambombas', performances by María Peláe and Pitingo, and shows by Luis de Perikín and the Fundación Alalá.
The Children's, Youth, and Family cycle will offer a variety of shows to engage younger audiences. Ticket sales for the new season begin on July 21st, except for the Christmas cycle, which starts on September 8th. Season ticket renewals commence on July 17th.
