The Flamenco Tasting once again proved a success in Montilla, gathering more than 700 attendees at Envidarte for an evening exceeding seven hours of song and dance. This event kicks off the cultural and leisure program ‘Montilla en Vendimia’, celebrating the town's identity, wine, and traditions.
The evening began with the traditional welcome of wine, featuring children from the Asociación Amigos de la Venencia performing the venencia. This gesture symbolizes the festival's historical union, born on September 12, 1970, with the Grape Harvest Festival, which celebrates its 71st edition this year.
On stage, the intensity grew with the performances. Sandra Carrasco offered contemporary flamenco, followed by Esmeralda Rancapino, representing a flamenco lineage. Jesús Castilla moved the audience with a bulería performed solely with percussion and powerful fandangos.
The dancing of Salomé Ramírez brought color and strength, leading into the second part of the night. The experience of Aurora Vargas added depth, while Sara Denez and Juanfran Carrasco guided the audience through various flamenco styles, concluding a magical dawn.
After more than half a century, the festival maintains its ability to unite flamenco generations and sensibilities, blending youth, experience, and respect for tradition. This strength ensures its freshness and capacity to surprise year after year.
The Flamenco Tasting thus launches ‘Montilla en Vendimia’, a celebration deeply rooted in Montilla, where flamenco and wine have reunited since 1970. Organized by the Peña Flamenca El Lucero and the Montilla City Council, the town begins weeks of culture, leisure, heritage, and tradition for residents and visitors.
