This determination, announced by Manuel Ruiz, Ciudadanos' coordinator in Andalucía and a councilor in Huévar del Aljarafe (Seville), seeks to "strengthen the project for upcoming electoral challenges," including the municipal elections in May 2027 and the general elections in the same year. The party will not endorse any candidate for the Presidency of the Junta.
The decision by Ciudadanos' General Council follows a period of significant political transformation. Between 2018 and 2022, the party evolved from a decisive force in the Andalusian Government, holding 21 seats, to losing all parliamentary representation in the 2022 elections, where the Andalusian PP secured an absolute majority.
“"Our objective is to strengthen the project for upcoming electoral challenges."
Despite failing to secure seats in 2022, Ciudadanos garnered the support of 121,567 Andalusians. This significant number of votes now becomes a coveted prize for the PP and PSOE in the upcoming elections. These votes could be crucial for Juanma Moreno's absolute majority or to boost the socialists, led by María Jesús Montero.
Ciudadanos' journey in the Andalusian Parliament began on March 22, 2015, when it secured nine parliamentary seats with 369,914 votes, positioning itself as the fourth political force. Its peak success occurred on December 2, 2018, achieving 21 seats and 661,371 votes, which allowed them to form part of the first non-socialist government in Andalusia's democratic history, in coalition with the PP and with the external support of Vox.
