The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has activated the 'Special Traffic Operation' for the August 15th holiday in the province of Granada, expecting 133,600 journeys.

The operation, which began this Friday, August 14th, at 3:00 PM, will continue until Sunday, August 16th, at midnight. A high volume of traffic is anticipated on Granada's roads due to the mid-month change, tourist destinations, second homes, and patron saint festivals in numerous municipalities.
The Traffic Group of the Civil Guard will intensify preventive measures for speed, alcohol, and drug controls during these days. An increase in short-distance travel is expected, particularly on secondary roads, during nights and early mornings.
To improve traffic flow and road safety for returns from the Costa Tropical, the DGT will implement contraflow lanes on the A-44 every Sunday in August, between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, between Motril and the GR-30 junction in Otura.
The operation involves the full availability of human and technical resources, including Civil Guard officers, traffic management centers, maintenance personnel, and emergency services. Fixed and mobile speed radars, cameras, drones for aerial surveillance, and unmarked vehicles will be used to monitor compliance with regulations.
Forecasts indicate higher traffic intensity for departures from Friday afternoon, especially towards tourist areas and festival towns. Saturday will see continued heavy traffic towards the coast and second homes, along with short-distance trips. Sunday is expected to have heavy traffic in the morning for beach access and in the afternoon for returns, with a particular concentration between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
Traffic advises planning journeys in advance, checking road conditions before traveling, and, where possible, avoiding peak traffic hours.
