The Vícar City Council has joined the initiative by the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) to monitor and control distracted driving. The campaign aims to collect statistical data on driver behavior and raise awareness about its importance.
The mayor of Vícar, Antonio Bonilla, highlighted the council's commitment to road safety, emphasizing the municipality's experience through its Road Safety Education Center and its annual training activities.
During the surveillance operation, which took place from October 5th to 11th, a total of 149 vehicles were inspected. Data from the Local Police indicate that only one fine was issued for mobile phone use while driving, reinforcing the effectiveness of awareness campaigns as a preventive measure, as distractions are a major risk factor for accidents.
The Department of Citizen Security and Local Police of the Vícar City Council urges residents to drive consciously and respectfully to ensure everyone's safety.
In addition to this campaign, the council collaborates with the DGT on other initiatives such as monitoring school transport vehicles, drug consumption checks, and van surveillance.
