The 250th Anniversary City Roquetas de Mar Association has designed a calendar of events that, according to its president María José López Carmona, ranges from book presentations and conferences to guided tours, exhibitions, and historical reenactments. These initiatives aim to delve into the rich history of the municipality and share it with residents and visitors.
One of the most notable activities that has already begun is the 18th-century reenactment with period costumes, which took place on April 1st. This initiative, which has become a success, was held in the picturesque surroundings of the Castle and the Lighthouse, attracting numerous participants and curious onlookers.
“"This is the third year we have implemented the Historical Sewing Workshop, from which four or five costumes emerge each season. On this occasion, we focused more on winter attire, crafting capes of different cuts and sizes using wools, corduroys, and thick cotton fabrics to give greater authenticity."
López Carmona also announced that, for spring and summer, new costume designs will incorporate lighter fabrics, adapting to warmer temperatures, but always maintaining fidelity to the standards of 18th-century male and female attire. These exhibitions, known as “18th-Century Walks,” will take place monthly, although the exact dates will be adjusted according to weather conditions.
Each walk will feature different costumes and props, starting and touring various areas of the municipality. In addition to the surroundings of the Castle and the Lighthouse, the association plans to bring these reenactments to Roquetas Centro and the Tourist Urbanizations, allowing a wider audience to enjoy this historical immersion.
