The investigation into the crime in El Ejido has uncovered a spiral of violence that began before the shootings. The 25-year-old detainee was placed in provisional prison, charged with two counts of consummated murder and six of attempted murder. The events took place on May 18th.

According to judicial sources, in the early hours of May 16th, the individual took his partner to a beach in Adra. Following an argument fueled by jealousy, he attempted to kill her by stabbing her in the face. The victim managed to dodge the fatal blow, receiving the stab wound on the side of her face, which caused severe injuries but saved her life.

This attempted homicide due to gender violence was the prelude to the massacre that occurred two days later in the neighborhood of El Canalillo. The aggressor, who had prior records for possession of bladed weapons and drug trafficking, acted with premeditation. He waited for his mother and stepfather to arrive by car and shot them at close range, causing their deaths.

Immediately after, he fired at his partner, their seven-month-old son, a 19-year-old neighbor and her 18-month-old daughter, as well as a man around 60 years old. The baby suffered critical injuries to his jaw and skull, while the young mother and her daughter sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The older man was shot in the head.

After his arrest, the alleged killer invoked his right to remain silent. The judicial authority ordered his imprisonment, citing flight risk, the need to prevent the destruction of evidence, and the protection of surviving victims.

Preliminary proceedings also suggest the possibility that the detainee may suffer from a severe mental disorder, which will be thoroughly evaluated by forensic psychiatrists.
