The Junta de Andalucía has reaffirmed its commitment to the construction of a new facility for Early Childhood Education at the CEIP Virgen de Gracia in Archidona. These new facilities will replace the current module, which was closed after structural problems were detected by municipal technicians and the Andalusian Public Agency for Education (APAE).
The territorial delegate for Educational Development and Vocational Training in Málaga, Miguel Briones, met with the mayor of Archidona, Manuel Almohalla; the school's director, Victoria Cañizares; and the parents' representative on the School Council, Silvia Medina, to provide an update on the project's progress.
The closure of the kindergarten module was due to pathologies detected in the building, which necessitated relocating students to the primary school building to ensure the safety of the educational community.
The center was included in 2008 in the OLA plan by the then socialist government for the rehabilitation of educational infrastructure, but the project was never executed. Following a change in government in 2020, a geotechnical study was commissioned, recommending the construction of a new building instead of rehabilitation.
The Andalusian administration has approved a basic needs program within the Infrastructure Plan. Miguel Briones has committed to advancing the tender for the basic and execution projects of the new kindergarten module during the year 2027.
Both the mayor of Archidona, the school's management, and the AMPA representative expressed their satisfaction with the acquired commitment and announced they would share the information at an upcoming extraordinary School Council meeting.
