Txus Vidorreta, who has recently taken the helm at Unicaja Málaga, has revealed the warmth of the welcomes and the supportive messages he has received. The coach recounted a conversation with Ibon Navarro, his predecessor, highlighting the shared excitement for their new chapters: Málaga for Navarro and Belgrade for Vidorreta, as well as the nostalgia of leaving behind Tenerife, which he described as his best sporting period.
The coach also mentioned calls from players he managed in Tenerife and who have played in Málaga. Figures such as Jaime Fernández, Shermadini, and Abromaitis conveyed to him that Unicaja is an ideal club for him and that he would be very happy, provided the team wins matches. He emphasized a special connection with Germán Gabriel, who contacted him from Texas, showing great enthusiasm for the signing. Vidorreta recalled his bond with Gabriel since their time at Bilbao in 2004 and his period at Estudiantes, where Gabriel was MVP.
Other basketball personalities have also been in touch. Sergio Scariolo sent a witty and amusing message, while Sasu Salin expressed his confidence that Vidorreta's family would adapt perfectly to life in Málaga.
