The socialist party has expressed concern over the inaction of the regional and municipal administrations in improving mobility around the airport. They have emphasized the need for the Junta de Andalucía to extend the metro line to the airport and for the City Council to optimize road connections to facilitate access.
“"Committing to mobility, and specifically to urban mobility, is what the Government of Spain is doing with this expansion, which will involve an investment of 1.5 billion euros for Málaga Airport to continue growing."
Furthermore, alleged failures by the Andalusian president regarding urban mobility have been highlighted, citing delays in extending the metro to areas such as PTA and Campanillas, and the connection to the growing district of Churriana.
The initiative will be presented at the next Urban Planning and Mobility Commission by a socialist councilor, who stressed that the airport expansion, included in the DORA III plan, must be accompanied by a strategic mobility plan at both regional and municipal levels, especially in Churriana, where significant deficiencies in this area have been reported for years.
The need for the metro and metropolitan transport to reach the airport has been advocated, noting that the Government of Spain will make substantial investments in the double tracks of the Cercanías commuter rail and in stations to allow for greater transport capacity.
Finally, a socialist councilor and head of the Churriana district has reminded local and regional administrations that the flow of millions of travelers generated by the airport expansion requires efficient city connections to avoid traffic chaos in the district and meet the needs of residents.
