The socialists have pointed out that Churriana is the only district in the city that lacks a covered sports facility, despite "decades of empty electoral promises" from the mayor. They recalled that the creation of this sports complex has been a recurring commitment in the Popular Party's electoral programs.
“"Churriana deserves its residents to be able to play sports in a public pavilion, as do, for example, the residents of Cártama, who have one of the best sports facilities."
According to the municipal group, the current intention of the local administration might be to "also privatize sports," as the construction of a privately managed facility is being considered. They have reaffirmed their party's commitment to continue demanding and ensuring a publicly managed sports center in the district.
A socialist councilor detailed the "chronology of this historical non-compliance," mentioning that "for five legislative periods, there has been talk of a covered sports center." He recalled that the project was drawn up almost 30 years ago and tendered, but "to this day, not even the first stone has been laid." Furthermore, he criticized that this year's municipal budgets do not include any economic allocation for the work.
The councilor lamented that Churriana, being a district on the outskirts of Málaga, "feels forgotten by the governing team." He demanded the execution of the project "once and for all" to accommodate sports disciplines deeply rooted in the area, such as basketball, badminton, and frontenis, emphasizing the importance of a covered space for young people to practice sports regardless of weather conditions.
